Montana Releases 2021 Wolf Data. The Montana Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks (MTFWP) has released the wolf population numbers for 2021. There is an estimated 1,141 wolves roaming the treasure state which is a 40 wolf difference compared to 2020.

“What the data shows us really isn’t surprising,” said MTFWP Director Hank Worsech. “Our management of wolves, including ample hunting and trapping opportunities, have kept numbers at a relatively stable level during the past several years.”

Wolf pack numbers have fluctuated over the last 10 years with a high of 205 in 2012 and a low of 186 in 2017. Currently it is estimated that there is 198 different packs roaming Montana.
